Roberto Orci, a third of the "Transformers 2" screenwriting trio, has updated the fandom on the status of the film with a posting at producer Don Murphy's message board.

The title of the thread was "An Apology," and Mr. Orci wrote that due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, "the movie may suffer."

Mr. Orci writes that he has talked to some writers in the business and they are ready to hold out "forever." The writers are in dispute regarding DVD royalties and web royalties as the old media's new journey into the web continues to grow.

He also says that the movie "may be pushed back" from the principal photography date of June 2008, "or a host of other thing[s] may happen to it." What other things Mr. Orci is referring to are unknown, but he promised to keep us posted.

How are you?

As you know, all screenwriters are engaged in a labor dispute with the major studios and media conglomerates that subsidize much, but not all of the media content that we consume. It may go on for a very long time. All the other writers I've talked to on every level are ready to hold out FOREVER, all the while figuring out ways to make a living out of the internet without studios.

So now the hard part for me and Alex and Ehren and all fans of Transformers is that the movie may suffer (unless of course you hate the first one so much that you feel our inattention is a bonus). It may be pushed back or a host of other thing may happen to it. For that we apologize truly.
